These paintings are a tribute to the great American poet Walt Whitman. Although the paintings appear dark there is a lightness of spirit and joy. The paintings are a celebration of nature. Whitman considered himself a man of the people and walked the land and experienced many things in his life. Feel the soil beneath your feet, the rough rock under your hand and the sun on your face. Take joy in simple things; find love, find light and find music and embrace
all. The surface of the canvas may appear rough, but he tactile nature of the paintings are purposeful in that they invite touch and a feast for the eye and mind. To stop and experience small things, where one looks and expects nothing, there is everything.
