Focused on Creativity

I paint from life.  My work is heavily influenced by my experiences at the International School of Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture in Umbria, Italy.  A sense of nostalgia for the inevitably escaping moment frequently overwhelmed me while painting the Italian landscape; I thus began experimenting with a limited palette to alternately harness and indulge this feeling. In my recent work, I continue to explore the aesthetic and emotional potential of a monochromatic image. I reconstruct both emotional and physical spaces through the lens of memory.  Using family photographs as my source, I pursue a greater understanding while attempting to reconcile the privilege of maturity with the eventuality of decomposition.  These reconstructions often lead to the fusion of different environments based in previous paintings.
